Sanctuaries With The World’s Best Biodiversity

Sanctuaries With The World’s Best Biodiversity

Sanctuaries are places where nature is allowed to thrive, and where biodiversity is abundant. Numerous species, from insects to huge animals, may be found in these sanctuaries. Moreover, they are vital to maintain the balance of our planet’s ecosystems. Biodiversity, or the variety of life on Earth, is essential for the survival of all living organisms, including humans. However, due to habitat loss, climate change, over-exploitation of resources, illegal trade, and other human activities, biodiversity loss is a growing concern worldwide.

Despite these challenges, there are still some sanctuaries around the world that boast the best biodiversity. These protected areas have made significant efforts to preserve and safeguard the environment. resulting in them becoming havens for a variety of flora and species. In this post, we’ll look at some of the top wildlife refuges in the world with the most biodiversity. We are also talking about how important it is to protect the environment for future generations.

Manas Wildlife Sanctuary

The Tiger Reserve and Elephant Reserve are the areas of the sanctuary that are most well-known. Numerous other species call it home, including the hoolock gibbon, capped langur, golden langur, and clouded leopard. Numerous types of birds and butterflies live in the tropical woodlands and tropical animals that make up the refuge.

The Manas Wildlife Sanctuary is significant historically and culturally. Before it was designated as a sanctuary in 1928, it served as a royal hunting reserve for the Kachari rulers. Poaching, illicit logging, and human encroachment have all put the refuge under danger. The refuge and its species have, nevertheless, been protected via conservation efforts. In 1989, UNESCO designated the refuge as a Biosphere Reserve.

At the sanctuary, visitors may take part in a variety of activities like elephant rides, vehicle safaris, and bird-watching excursions. The refuge is best visited between November and April when the weather is nice.

To address the demand for long-term chimpanzee care, Chimp Haven was established in 19952. The Chimpanzee Health Improvement Maintenance and Protection (CHIMP) Act, approved by Congress in 2000, created a government sanctuary system to offer chimpanzees who have completed their medical studies lifelong care.

More than 400 chimpanzees have made Chimp Haven their home since 2005. Also, more than 300 chimpanzees were living at Chimp Haven as of 2021. More than 300 chimpanzees who had previously been employed in scientific research are now living in the sanctuary. Moreover, efforts are being made urgently to bring those currently awaiting adoption at research institutions home.

Bear Sanctuary Belitsa,

Bear Sanctuary Belitsa is sometimes referred to as the Bulgarian Dancing Bears Park. It is a sanctuary that is situated close to Belitsa in South West Bulgaria. The refuge, which was founded in 2000, offers abused and abandoned brown bears a place to live. In addition to four bears from Bulgarian zoos and two juvenile bears from unsanitary private keeping situations, the park has successfully saved 31 former dancing bears from Bulgaria, Serbia, and Albania.

The 120,000 square meter park is split into seven outside cages where the bears are free to explore. Depending on the season, the sanctuary provides guided tours in Bulgarian and English every half-hour starting at 10:00 a.m. or 12:00 p.m. Also, the excursions educate people about the bears’ habitat, behavior, and history for roughly 30 to 40 minutes.

Visitors may see the bears in their native habitat. But, from a distance. The goal of the sanctuary is to inform visitors about the bears’ former living circumstances and to increase public awareness of bear protection.

Bears, wolves, wild boars, red foxes, and hedgehogs are just a few of the various species of animals that can be found in Bulgaria. The marbled polecat is one species that is particular to Bulgaria. A joint venture between Four Paws and the Brigitte Bardot Foundation is the Bear Sanctuary Belitsa.
