Peculiar Crooked trees in Poland

Peculiar Crooked trees in Poland

Forests full of trees are the untainted creation of nature that produces life. Trees play the main role in biodiversity. They give life to chirping birds, blooming flowers, blue mountains, and foamy waterfalls. Forests are genuinely a calming pill to heal minds full of stress and depression. The calmness you experience while walking through massive trees can take you to another sensational world. When talking about trees, we all pop up with the same picture with greenish leaves straight or twisted trunks. But today we are going to explore a set of offbeat trees. Let’s start with a walk through the crooked forest in Poland.

Amidst all the trees going straight to say hello to their all-mighty sun, there are are a forest full of trees in Poland that contains trees that are a little odd. These trees have curved in the same strange way which remains us with a  mystifying puzzle.

Where is the crooked forest?

Spreading over 1.7 hectares this strange forest is located in Gryfino, West Pomerania in Poland. This forest contains 400 oddly-shaped pine trees that are approximately 80 years old. Routinely pine trees reach an average height of 1.5 meters. But here pine trees do not hit the average height. Because of an unknown reason all of the trees have curved in a eccentric way. These trees have grown up normally in the beginning and have curved 90 degrees and developed parallel to the ground. Secondly, they have curved 90 degrees to grow straight up towards the sky.

The reason for the strange shape

Numerous theories have come up to describe the formation of the bizarre curvature we can see here.

The snowstorm

Some assume that a snow storm that occurred in 1930s has given the trees their curvature. Moreover, this theory declares that the long spring melt had left a pile of snow on the trees for a longer time. That has kept these trees bent and grew curved to this strange shape.

The gravitational fluctuation.

The second theory states that the fluctuation of the quirky gravitational field that the place holds, has been responsible for the curvature of the trees. A powerful gravitational field that has been rendering through the immature stages of the trees has developed them paroral to the ground without letting them grow normally. The normal gravitational field which has been placed later on, has curved them back to normal.

But there are zero evidence to prove the above theories. Furthermore, there are straightly grown pine trees around the crooked forest. There pops up the opposition to the above theories. If this curvature has appeared as a circumstance of a natural reason why don’t some trees show this odd shape? Why does only a specific group of trees have curved?

Is the curvature Man-made?

There are two theories that have been presented that are stating that the curvature is man-made.

Tank Plowing

During the invasion that happened during the world war two, enemy tanks have plowed constantly on the young trees. According to this theory above activity has bent the trees into the strange shape that we can see today. It has been estimated that these trees have been damaged into this shape when they are 7-10 years old. Although the time periods are matching there is no strong evidence to prove this theory.

Shaped for ship making

The theory that has obtained most of the acceptance is that, this is work done intentionally by a local farmer. Actually, this is a  creative idea that someone unknown has come up with. Moreover, have bent the tree to get this uniform curvature. But why did they do this? Researchers say that someone has done this with the idea of using them for wood constructions.  This curve can be easily used to make furniture. Moreover, wood experts say that the naturally curved wood can supply extra strength for the internal parts of a ship. This kind of wood is known as compass wood.

The innovative idea of making naturally curved wood has drifted with time, remaining a massive land full of crooked trees.  The local farmer might have never thought his work will leave a sight with a massive tourist attraction. Due to the world war, this area was abandoned. That is why locals have no idea what has happened in this land over the years.

Gryfino area was not re-established until the 1970s, until a new power plant “Dolna Odara” was established in the area. It is a coal coal-fired power station. It consisted of eight units, two of 220 MW and six of 232 MW. Furthermore, that entered service between 1974 and 1977, with 5 to 8 units. After establishing the power plant this area was popularized. People discovered this amazing forest.

Now an enormous number of tourists are visiting this area to see this strange tree formation. Furthermore, the authorities of Poland have taken actions to conserve the crooked forest area with the large number of species who are dwelling there.

So what do you think about this place? Have you ever visited a crooked forest? Tell me in the comments section.
