1. History of the University 

University of Salford’s roots trace back to 19th-century industrial Britain. This university was established during the height of the Industrial Revolution in response to public demand for technical and vocational education. The Pendleton Mechanics’ Institute was established in 1850. At the time, higher education was for working-class communities. Salford Working Men’s College was founded in 1858 to offer education in science, engineering, and applied skills. These two institutes were merged to form Salford Technical Institute in 1896.

Then the university was expanded to facilitate the engineering and construction faculties transitioning to royal technical institute. This institute was nationally recognised for technical training. It became Royal Technical College, Salford in 1921.

Following the post-war expansion in science and technology, the university was designated the Royal College of Advanced Technology in 1956. The university grew to add programs in humanities, social sciences, and arts and became University College Salford in 1996.

Since then, the university has gone through modernisations of its academic structure and campus redevelopment initiatives to deliver an excellent outcome.

His international acting career reached a milestone when he played Oscar winning role in Gandhi. Moreover, he has received multiple Academy Awards, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes.

02) Christopher Eccleston

Christopher Eccleston studied drama education at the University of Salford. The hands-on experience he recieved at his time in Salford helped the development of his stage presence and technical acting skills. He played the lead role as the Ninth Doctor in Doctor Who. 03) Peter Kay

01) Peel Park Campus

This is the main and original campus of the University of Salford, located on the banks of the River Irwell, close to Manchester city centre.
