The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead

Walking Dead Plot Summary

The Walking dead series starts with  Police Officer Rick Grimes, who is the protagonist of the series, getting shot while on duty. He gets admitted to the hospital unconscious. He wakes up in the hospital only to find out that it has been infested by zombies. Rick hurries out worrying about his wife and kids. He has no idea where to go.

Fortunately, he finds Morgan Jones and his son. He gets to stay in there a while. Morgan explains how the zombies attack others and turn people into their kind. He also describes how his wife was a victim of the zombie infestation. Rick then takes the father and son duo to the police station to acquire stacks of ammunition and guns. Then Rick gets to know about a cure for the infestation that is being made in Atlanta, so he decides to go there, but Morgan and his son refuse to go along with him. So Rick travels alone.

Meanwhile, Rick’s wife and son, named Lori and Carl, are shown in a small encampment with other survivors. On the way to Atlanta, Rick’s car breaks down, and he goes in a horse. When he gets to Atlanta, he is horrified by the army of zombies surrounding him, he somehow escapes and crawls under a tank and gets in, but the horse dies.

Inside the tank, Rick receives a message through the walkie-talkie that was lying down. Someone nearby signals him and saves him. The people who saved Rick are a part of his wife’s and son’s group. After a series of events, Rick, along with some of the members of the group, gets to the research lab in Atlanta. When things don’t go right in the research facility, they leave the place for good.

Carol’s Daughter Sophia goes missing

The caravan in which Rick and others are traveling comes to a stop, where they run out of fuel. At this moment, they come across a herd of zombies where the group disperses and loses track of each other. This is when Carol’s Daughter Sophia goes missing. While searching for Sophia, Carl gets shot by a hunter mistakenly; they rush to a farm nearby led by the hunter to treat the wound. That’s when they meet Hershel and Maggie. The missing girl Sophia will later be found as a Walker.

Rick and his crew find out that Hershel has been keeping his dead relatives, who are now Walkers, locked up in a Barn. Eventually, the barn breaks up, releasing the Walkers, and this spurs up chaos. As the story goes on, due to a series of regrettable events, the people in the barn are forced to move out. From this point onwards, this group of people who are beside Rick will find another set of people who eventually turn out to be evil. They also manage to build a community with protective walls. The whole plot is inexplicable as this series is still airing on AMC. So we’ll get to the review.

The Death of Characters

The Walking Dead is so unpredictable. You would not know who would die next. Some imperative characters will be just killed off. But this comes off as very realistic in the Walking Dead. As life is tough to predict, and people die suddenly without any sign or symptom. This fact is inevitable, and that’s how some of the characters are killed off. In contrast, some characters’ demise comes off very emotionally while some others do not.

The Walkers

The zombies in The Walking Dead, who are called Walkers, are of a different kind. It is close to reality in a sense where if the world were indeed taken over by zombies, it would be sort of looking like this. They are not so fast, but they are inevitable. The makeup artists in The Walking Dead have spent hours doing makeup for a single actor who plays a walker. The prosthetics look very real and disgusting. The practical effects of The Walking Dead are mind-blowing. Some scenes in the front make you flint so hard. The creators of The Walking Dead do not hesitate to show how bloody and gory it can get when it comes to the survival of the fittest.

Cast Performances

The Casts performances are insane in The Walking Dead. Especially Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes, proves his talent frequently, making the audience watch him in awe. There are certain emotional scenes where he will bring out the pain in such a perfect way that you’ll be in tears. Andrew Lincoln doesn’t compromise to anything; he just comes in and does his best. He gets and fits into the character so perfectly. Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl, is also an exuberant performer. His character arc makes his performance special. He went from an annoying side character to the man who carries The Walking Dead show now.

Where it went wrong

Saying that The Walking Dead season 1 to 7 is a Masterpiece would be an understatement. That is entirely true. But where it went wrong is from season 8. The writers kept changing, and the show went nowhere. A little bit of hope was still seen. Fans were hoping that it would somehow rise back to its old glory. But that’s when Rick’s death comes. Rick’s death was a massive blow for the TV show. After this, many stopped watching, and the last bit of hope that was lingering in the shadow was shattered. The show then goes from best to worst. The writing was so unstable after that. It’s as if the writers didn’t know what to do, and they just kept putting whatever came into their minds into the story.

Other Pros and Cons of Walking Dead

Pros: The music composition and placement is perfect. The screenplay is applaudable. Visuals are stunning even though in the beginning they might seem a little bland, but they fit the tone of the show.

Cons: You might find some conversations boring due to their duration. From The Walking Dead season 8 to season 11, you might find it even unwatchable. But from seasons 1-7, it’s a Masterpiece.
