Salomons Campus is a sub campus of Canterbury Christ Church University, which is located in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Those who are seeking postgraduate degree programs in clinical psychology can obtain a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DclinPsy) from the Salomons Campus. This program is designed according to current standards and is accredited by professional bodies. Moreover, Salomons Campus has strong partnerships wth NHS, which students can benefit from when they are going for placements.

Also, the Salomons Campus offers degree programs in professional doctorate pathways such as counselling psychology. These pathways are more practotioner- focused training models. There are psychotherapy degrees which integrate psychodynamic approaches and emphasise ethical and reflective practise.

Furthermore, there are degree programs in forensic psychology which are offered by the Salomons Campus. These degrees emphasise the application of psychology within criminal justice systems. The history of the Salomons Campus dates back to the 19th century, when it was the Salomons estate. Salomon’s estate was owned by Sir David Salomons, who was a prominent engineer, scientist, and philanthropist who contributed significantly to innovation and education in Britain. This estate was originally used as a private residence and later gained recognition for its architectural and cultural value.

During the 20th century, the estate was transitioned into an educational site. Then, it was gradually developed into an institute for advanced professional training. The site was later incorporated into Canterbury Christ Church University. Today, it is called the Salomons Campus and is dedicated to psychology education and mental health. Over time, the Salomons Campus has developed into a nationally recognised centre for postgraduate education, clinical training and applied research.

Today, the Salomons Campus plays a major role within the Canterbury Christ Church University by supporting doctoral education, professional accreditation, research supervision and collaboration with healthcare services. 4.1.3 History of the City: Royal Tunbridge Wells

Royal Tunbridge Wells is where the Salomons Campus is located. It is a town located in East London which has a significant cultural and historical significance. This town was founded in the early 17th century with the discovery of natural mineral springs. With that, this town became popular as a spa town. Over time, Tunbridge Wells became a destination for aristocracy, royalty, health and leisure.

 In 1909, King Edward VII granted the town “Royal” status. Royal Tunbridge Wells is known for Victorian architecture. For instance, Pantilas is a major social and cultural landmark with historic origins. Today, Royal Tunbridge Wells is well known for its quality of life, safety and cultural significance.

4.1.4 Infrastructure Facilities at Salomons Campus

Salmon campus encompasses a set of historic and modern buildings. These buildings have lecture theatres, seminar rooms, administration offices, etc.

Salomons House

Salomons House was once part of Salomons’ estate. Now, it is used by the Salomons campus and contains lecture rooms, seminar rooms and academic offices. This is the main building on the Salomons campus. The historic architecture in Salomons House remains the same, making it a unique building in the university.

The campus provides postgraduate training spaces which contain modern training facilities and seminar rooms for educational use. The areas enable students to acquire essential soft skills through supervised practice, case studies and medical oversight. These provide students with the essential skills needed for advanced mental training and psychotherapy training. The rooms have audiovisual equipment, which enables interactive instructional lectures and training sessions to be conducted.

The campus also contains unique areas used for schooling, clinical sessions and providing therapy services. The rooms are designed for remedial simulation, supervised exercise and role-play education. So, these permit university students to acquire real-world capabilities in a comfortable and managed educational setting. The Salomons’ estate experiences autumn weather, which brings cooler temperatures and seasonal changes that reveal leaf colours, which improve the campus’s natural environment. The winter season typically brings mild to cool temperatures, which occasionally produce frost. But snow occurs very rarely. The area receives rainfall throughout the year. However, the weather pattern here remains drier than the northern regions of the United Kingdom.

Railway

The nearest railway station to the Salomons Campus is Tunbridge Wells Railway Station, which is located around 3–4 km from the campus premises.  This train station has direct train links to London Charing Cross, London Bridge and London Cannon Street. Average travel time to London from the Salomons Campus is around 45–55 minutes.

Bus & Local Transport

There are frequent local bus routes connecting the Campus with the town centre and residential areas. However, there are limited late-night bus services. Moreover, there are taxis and car-sharing services. Due to the location of the campus, there is direct access to the A21 route, which can be taken to each of the London, Kent towns, and the South Coast easily.

Airports

London Gatwick Airport is located approximately 40 km away from the campus. This is the primary airport for international students who attend Solomon’s College.

Also, the London Heathrow Airport is located around 90 km away from the university, which provides long-haul international connectivity. In addition, the London Stansted Airport is located around 100 km away from the campus premises.

4.1.7 Student Life at Salomons Campus

As I have mentioned before, Salomons Campus is a campus that is focused on Postgraduate academics. It has a strong professional and clinical education emphasis and houses a small student population. Moreover, the university maintains a research-intensive learning culture with minimal undergraduate presence.

Academic Culture

As Salomons Campus is focused on delivering psychology-related degrees, it has a psychology-led campus identity. Moreover, the campus has strong research supervision and clinical skills development. The course modules consist of more evidence-based practice focus.

Entertainment & Social Life

Here, students get to experience the unique Café culture in Royal Tunbridge Wells. Also, there are bookshops and independent stores which students can visit. There are art galleries and museums, and seasonal cultural festivals, which students can enjoy.

Sports & Recreation

As the Salomons Campus has a more academic-focused environment, there are no large on-campus sports complexes. However, students can get access to Tunbridge Wells Sports Centre, and Private gyms and yoga studios. Moreover, there are walking trails, jogging routes and green parks and woodland which students can use for day-to-day exercises or hiking.

Clubs, Societies & Associations

There are some academic-related clubs and societies in Salomons Campus, such as psychology student networks, research interest groups and Mental health advocacy groups. Even though this campus has more academic-based clubs, students can still access university-wide societies.

Usually, the campus hosts academically based extra sessions, such as guest lectures by clinical practitioners, professional accreditation workshops, and research methodology training. In addition, there are ethics and supervision seminars and inter-campus academic events, where students can obtain more knowledge and networking.

4.1.8 Night Life Around Solomon’s Campus

The Tunbridge Wells area has a quiet and controlled nightlife environment with social venues concentrated in the town centre. So, there are limited late-night clubbing options. The key Nightlife Locations are The Pantiles, Wine bars and Jazz nights. These venues provide live acoustic performances in a historic social setting.

Forum Tunbridge Wells is a live music venue with Indie and alternative events. It often gives student-friendly discounts to university students. In addition, there are traditional British pubs for evening socialising and Casual dining.

4.1.9 Accommodation Facilities

On-Campus Accommodation

In the Salomons Campus, there are limited on-site residential facilities. However, the campus can provide short-stay accommodation for students who are coming for conferences, professional training and clinical workshops.

Off-Campus Accommodation

Most of the students stay in private rented housing or shared student houses. Moreover, there are studio apartments and one-bedroom flats available in the area. Accommodation is primarily located in areas such as Royal Tunbridge Wells and Southborough.

Students can get the support of the university to get housing advice services, landlord guidance and tenancy support.

4.1.10 Medical Services & Nearest Hospitals

Students have access to primary healthcare through local NHS GP practices. Also, students can get NHS registration support. There are dental clinics in the town centre and pharmacies within a short travel distance for people who are in need.
