Omair Ahmad.

Every story has two sides with a beginning and an end but is this the beginning of the end?
Jimmy the Terrorist by Omair Ahmad an Indian novelist who worked as a political adviser in Delhi and London. He was nominated for the Man Asian Literary prize in 2009. He won the Vodafone Crossword Award for fiction in 2010.

Plot Summary of Jimmy The Terrorist

The plot goes on around the fictional city of Moazzamabad and the minor community of the city. Story-based upon the well-educated family called Ansari, Rafiq Ansari is a B. Ed holder in Moazzamabad, and he had to struggle with society to get hold of a job though he was a degree holder. However, Rafiq and his family confronted many social issues within the family and the outside. Eventually, the plot connects with the life of Jamaal (Jimmy) the son of Rafiq Ansari and Shaistha Ansari. He is also an educated man like his mother and father, as a teenager, Jamaal hesitated to accept the current situation which took place in his hometown after the arrival of a new mayor (Manoj Tripathi). Moazzamabad was a peaceful city before the day of coming to a new Hindu Mayor to power.

The author describes the ethnic issues and the class disparity by portraying both.
Muslims and Hindus, though this story is a made-up tale Omair tries. to bring the ulterior motives of the cruel politicians who manipulate the society according to their will and needs. Ultimately it will become a huge disaster not only for them but for the whole society. Muslim community treated as social inferiors so that is how the terror began in peaceful Moazzamabad. It is quite ironic that because the ones who should protect the peace and harmony among the society are the ones who destroy the peace in the society, and they are acting like servants of those demagogues not the servants of the government.

distressed people

Omair specifically mentions that the growing distress of the people by picturizing the character of Rafiq, his contemporaries, and Jamaal including the blooming younger generation. Teenagers faced a lot of obligations due to the ethnic problems which were created among the people even a Muslim cannot accuse a wrongful person on behalf of their rights and guilt cause if that accused person wrongful or truthful the Muslim person should have compensated his life with the sake of unacceptable methods maybe he should pay for it from his life.
On the other hand, the rising competition between religions also took place in the city.

A Religion is not a thing to spread hypocrisy or gain power religion should be the guideline of the people to follow the path by gaining wisdom but in this context misinterpreted the religion although they try to prioritize their religion by building large Hindu temples and play prayers in loudspeakers though they play it in high volume they did not pay their respect towards their religion if they pay attention For it Moazzamabad will not become a reign of terror.

last few words

Moreover, the author drives the attention of the audience to the side of the authority of the group of people. The hooligans ravaged the city at their own will. They collect money from small boutiques to large shops in the town aftermaths of these many young deaths took place they did not stop by murdering them they set off the fire to them and slaughtered them in front of the people. Jamaal can no more stand and wait for these dreadful acts of the police. The young spirit rises in his heart and Jamaal stabbed an inspector in the town but his brave soul gone to heaven with his last few words
“My Name Is Jimmy
The Terrorist”
That is how Jamaal Ansari became Jimmy the Terrorist. There are enough Jimmys in our real-world. Though this story is fiction author accentuates the sad reality behind this cruel world via his creation. This can be the best example to spread tranquility among the world. If it is not, the whole world will become a Moazzamabad. So Omair left something to think twice for his audience.
