Devilled chicken is one of the tastiest dishes in Sri Lanka. It has well combined spicy, sweet and sour flavors. Normally we make it in festive seasons. But this dish is very common in restaurant menus. Everyone loves this saucy, flavor full dish.
Ingredients
700g Chicken
1 medium-size carrot
2 large onions
2tbsp Garlic paste
4tbsp Ginger paste
Pepper
Salt
6tbsp flour
1tbsp corn flour
2 capsicums
Chili flakes
2 large tomatoes
1 stalk of leek
1/4 cup of Soy sauce
1/2 cup of oyster sauce
3/4 cup of tomato sauce
1 tbsp. sugar
Coconut oil
1 tbsp. butter
Method
01) Cut vegetables vertically, into rings.
02) Add Chicken, salt, pepper, turmeric powder and mix them well add 3/4 cup of water.
03) Slowly boil it until the chicken is half done.
04) then switch off the cooker and take the chicken pieces out. Set the broth aside because we gonna use it later. 05) Add flour, corn flour, egg to the chicken pieces and add 2tbsp of broth and mix it up until all well combined.
06) Then air fry the chicken pieces until it gets golden brown. If u don’t have an air fryer, shallow fry the meat pieces.
07) Then put a pan on the cooker and add 1 tbsp. of oil, 1 tbsp. butter and 1 tbsp. of garlic paste, onion rings, fried chicken pieces.
Then add Chili flakes, Soy sauce, oyster sauce, and tomato sauce. and stir.
08) Then add the chicken broth, sugar, half of the remaining onion rings, and all other remaining ingredients excluding tomato.
09) Cook this under low flame and let it simmer. Cook it until all the water evaporates and it turns to a thick gravy. 10) Finally, add the remaining onion rings and tomatoes. Then give it a good stir.
Note
boil the chicken under low flame hence we have to wait until the meat releases its oil and juices. You can skip this step and instead of that deep fry the meat. Watch out for the salt because sauces contain salt too. Make certain to use good quality sauces.
