MediaCity Campus is undoubtedly one of the remarkable sub-campuses of the University of Salford. It is located in a prime location at MediaCityUK in Salford Quays, Greater Manchester. This sub campus mainly focuses on authentic media and virtual industry environments. MediaCity Campus isn’t the traditional type of college campus. 4.3.2 History and Functions of MediaCity Campus

The MediaCity Campus of Salford College has been strategically positioned as a new impediment against intense competition in the arts and media business in the United Kingdom. MediaCity Campus, which was established in the early 2010s, would be widely regarded as one of the first higher educational institutions to create an exclusive training and research hub within MediaCityUK. This newly developed media and technology hub has been working to create these opportunities for students to access broadcasting firms and creative bodies for potential partnership and career opportunities blended with education.

Unlike most other buildings that are located on various campuses around the world, MediaCity is more like a functional media complex, weaving a teaching space with broadcast-standard television and radio studios, editing suites, post-production labs, and performance studios.

4.3.3 History of the City Where the Sub Campus is Located

MediaCity Campus, part of MediaCityUK, located in the vicinity of Salford Quays, is an area of Greater Manchester in England. This waterfront area used to be part of the erstwhile Manchester Docks, which was an ingress port of the Manchester Ship Canal, built in the late 19th century. However, it was declared closed in the 1980s, leaving extensive industrial lands derelict.

Salford Quays became part of that regeneration and transformed the area with its great industrial history into one of the most ambitious urban intervention areas in the UK. The area was redeveloped as a mixed-use dystopia with offices, residential, cultural, and media production spaces. This new kind of area came to be called MediaCityUK. That campus facility was built around the mid-2000s with the hope of attracting media operations like the BBC, ITV, and the like to Salford Quays as the hub for broadcasting and creative industries.

MediaCityUK has become a vibrant and thriving hub of business, culture, and education in modern cities. The transformations from docklands to a media-generation borough have essentially altered the face of Greater Manchester, with contributory effects on employment, innovation, and urban regeneration.

4.3.4 Infrastructure and Facilities at MediaCity Campus

The Media City campus is a purpose-built university facility within MediaCityUK, which is a professional media district. The modern architectural design reflects the broadcast and digital industry environments. Also, the waterfront location at Salford Quays has created creative, commercial, and educational surroundings for the campus. In addition, the university has a direct proximity to BBC, ITV, and over 250 media and technology organisations.

Television Production Facilities

The Media City campus has broadcast-standard TV studios with facilities such as HD cameras, multi-camera setups, and professional lighting rigs. Also, there are control rooms with vision mixing, sound control, and live broadcast capabilities. Students can use green-screen studios with virtual sets and post-production integration. These are used for news production, live shows, drama, and student-led broadcasts.

Fabrication Lab and Creative Workshops

Fabrication Labs in the Media City campus are used for 3D printing, laser cutting, and prototyping tools. The students can also use Model-making and set design support facilities, which are used sed for production design, animation assets, and experimental creative work.

Media City campus is located at Salford Quays, which means it is located a bit farther within Manchester. MediaCity usually experiences a temperate maritime climate, which isthe same as the rest of northwest England. Summers do get a bit milder here, averaging at around 18-22 degrees. The winters are cool, averaging 2-8 degrees at some stage in this season. Rainfall throughout this season is heavy in any given month.

Those climatic conditions are influenced by the location’s proximity to the sea; hence, there are no noticeable seasonal variations and plenty of moisture for most of the year. Consequently, MediaCity Campus college students discover their climate is neither too warm nor too cold. University of Salford Sports Park is the main sports centre located on Peel Park campus, which can be accessed via tram. It includes facilities such as a gym, a swimming pool, indoor courts, and fitness classes. Students from MediaCity have access to this sports centre once they get the membership.

There are private & Municipal Facilities Near MediaCity Quays, such as the Quays Swimming & Fitness Centre, which also conducts gym, classes, and pool. Moreover, students can do cycling, walking, or jogging on routes along the waterfront.

YES, Manchester is a popular nightclub with live music and club nights. Cruz 101 is a nightclub near Canal Street which is  LGBTQ+ friendly.

MediaCity Campus does not have huge residence halls. However, the University of Salford has hostels controlled through the university with halls in the nearby area. They are located only a quick tram ride or maybe walking distance away.

These college hostels include rooms, shared kitchens, observation regions, and social areas. Furthermore, there are security and scholarship help offerings to get college accommodation.

Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust is a major hospital and emergency care provider. It consists of an emergency department, surgical units, and specialist departments. Also, it is easily reachable by tram or bus.
