Secret door of Padmanabhaswamy Kovil, India that can never be opened

The secret door of Padmanabhaswamy Kovil is a door that has been present in the famous temple of Sri Padmanabhaswamy,India ever since it was established. With strong locks and numerous precautions, the secret room has remained hidden from public knowledge all this while. There is also a tradition of making it inaccessible by failing to follow the ancient steps, which has made its existence an enigma for most people. So how did this happen? What are these strange rituals?

This article will try to reveal the secrets of Padmanabhaswamy Kovil in detail, starting with its origin, before moving on to its story and detailing some interesting rituals that take place there. This article will cover everything, from the main temple to its sub-temples, all located within one complex.

Historical Background of Padmanabhaswamy Temple

Padmanabhaswamy Temple was built by Thirumalai Nayak, a military commander of the Vijayanagar empire. He was known for his great contribution to the historic city of Hyderabad and as the builder of Charminar. Housing many richly decorated idols and other objects that were taken from different places all over South India, Padmanabhaswamy Temple was built for various purposes in its time. At different points in its history, it has been used as an armory and even a place to store treasures.

Chandrayudha Swami Temple and Padmanabhaswamy Temple

There is a sacred sub-temple of Padmanabhaswamy, which is called Chandrayudha Swami Temple. It was constructed in 1691 by Venkateswara Nayak, all on the northeast side of the main temple. This particular sub-temple had several richly decorated idols of deities that were taken from different places.

Many of these idols were brought from Tirumala-Tirupati hills and remained in this particular sub-temple for some time before being shifted to their permanent abodes at Tirupati. It is said that the Venkateswara idol was once in this sub-temple before it was shifted to the main temple. It is still a mystery how all the idols were moved from their original locations to this particular sub-temple.

The Whispers of Maintaining Secrecy and No Entry for Public

It is believed that different rituals have taken place in Padmanabhaswamy Temple in India, making it inaccessible to the public eye. This has been done so that people do not disturb or disrespect things at this sacred place, which has been passed on through generations as part of their tradition. However, despite all these rituals and secret places that have been built, nothing is actually hidden. No secure doors or methods are employed to prohibit entry to the inner sanctum in any way.

The main temple is open and accessible to the public. Therefore, people can gain access in and out of the temple as they wish. The only thing that has been done is to make the entrance of this particular sub-temple more secured as compared with the main temple itself. This is because of its close proximity to a Brahmin family. Their tradition does not allow them to let anyone into the sub-temple whose faces may be unfamiliar despite being an ardent devotee of Padmanabhaswamy Temple. They have also set up a system that requires visitors to show respect while staying in the main temple, so they may not stop people from entering this particular sub temple too.

Interesting Facts about the Secret Door at Padmanabhaswamy Temple

There are many interesting facts about this secret door of Padmanabhaswamy Temple. First and foremost of them all is the secret door itself. The doors of the temple are generally made from wood; however, this particular door is made from granite. This makes it extremely difficult to gain access through it as there are no markings on any hole or pin used to open it; therefore, a person cannot tell where exactly it is opened.

Another interesting fact is that the door is never opened and never closed. There are no holes in it; therefore, the door will remain shut no matter how hard you try. Both doors are made from the same stone brought from the Nilgiri Hills of Tamil Nadu. This makes it even more interesting as there is no way at all to open this particular door.

The person trying to open it must be a Brahmin who has been initiated into the Agama Sutras, which is a very stringent ritual.

This same tradition is followed at Chandrayudha Swami temple. Because there is another secret door of Padmanabhaswamy Temple; however, the main one is open to all. Despite all this, there is no way to open the door of this particular sub-temple. This has been so since time immemorial and even more so now after several generations. There are no markings on the door or any hole for anyone to put their hands through to open it up. This particular door has not been opened even once in the history of Padmanbhaswamy Temple.

treasure behind this door

The second story goes that there is a treasure behind this door, but not as significant as the first one. In fact, it is said it belongs to a temple locally known as Chandrayudha Swami Temple, which is situated nearby. It belonged to a Brahmin family who was also connected with the royal family of Raja of the Travancore Kingdom. Some believe they built the Padmanabhaswamy Temple. Their family had made many sacrifices for Lord Venkateswara, so they were highly respected in the region and therefore held a high position in this community.

They were a part of Raja of Travancore’s family, so their family was the only one who could enter this temple and do all the acts of worship. This continued until they got displaced and had to move out to a place called Kollam. Since they had no access to this treasure, they could not bring it with them, leaving it behind. It has been locked since then and is said to have remained untouched for four centuries now.
