MAC is popular for its products that are in the range of daring hues and dramatic beauty products; one of their most eye-catching pieces is the Molten Metal Highlighter. This liquid formula is said to give skin a revolutionary glow; still, does this luminizer truly shine as highly as it is marketed? As a true highlighter addict and a fan of anything shiny, I tried the Molten Metal on my cheekbones and any other place I could think of. Here are all the details from the density to the sheen.
First Impressions: Luxe Packaging and Confusing Dropper.
The Molten Metal is packed in a chic, opaque, gold-plumed plastic casing. This gives the product a rather posh and premium look. I think it does look slightly more luxurious than it is, although that is probably not the best approach in terms of business. Yet again, somewhere the dropper applicator just doesn’t make much sense to this writer. It is not the most accurate way of putting the product into use and you have to be selective on its use lest you use a lot of it. Perhaps the pump dispenser could have been easier to manage at that time.
Here’s what I loved about this highlighter:
Insanely High Shine:
Is this seriously glowing or what? A little amount is all that is needed and you can gradually increase the sheen to a blinding flash. It’s especially suitable for those days when you do not wish your full face to be a distraction but your cheekbones to be the spotlight.
Universal Champagne Shade:
The Molten Metal shade is exclusive and unlike the trios from the Glitter and Cream Pink collections, it does not have variations and is available only in champagne. It is not too cold or too hot. This makes it applicable to most skin types and problems it seeks to solve.
Liquid-to-Powder Formula:
It does not leave any tacky residue on the skin and rather sets to a powder-like finish once it is time to blend. Thus it doesn’t accentuate texture or pores and becomes invisible on the skin.
Buildable Coverage:
You can begin it a small amount and gradually increase it if you want a more intense tan. This makes it usable for normal and special occasions when one wants to add some glamour to their hair.
The Not-So-Good Stuff: A Few Things to Consider
Can Be Messy:
It is rather difficult to apply an appropriate amount of product. As for the one above, well, less is absolutely more.
Not for Dry Skin:
The liquid-to-power ratio could be damaging to the skin, especially to those with dry skin type. The right base is also important, more so a good moisturizer.
Limited Shade Range:
It is often a bummer for people of color when a brand only has one shade. Specifically for those with deeper skin tones. As far as lipstick is concerned, MAC should extend the variety of shades shortly.
The Final Verdict:
But is MAC Molten Metal Highlighter special enough that it has got to be on your vanity counter? Here’s my take:
If you are a highlighter fanatic who desires the level of luminosity to be gradual and intense – then you would like the Molten Metals. It’s shiny, applies easily, and there is hardly any color that is not flattering. However, if you find yourself with a dry skin type or just do not like bright and shiny things, then you are in the wrong movie. Also, be prepared to work with the dropper applicator as not doing so will result in messy makeup.
