Colombo is one such lovely spot. But if you are the one who thinks a historic hotel like the Galle Face Hotel is the most suitable place, you are right! Thus, the above-mentioned paradise has weathered the years since the year 1864. It has been there for years, darling it with the honor of being the oldest hotel in Sri Lanka. It looks like really going to the past, but it is a positive thing!
A cherry on top for this hotel is the location. The hotel is placed to the right of the Galle Face Green, which is a wide beachfront park that attracts people to its long walking paths and the kite flying events. What more do you wish for if you are near Colombo’ sights but away from its traffic?
Rooms
The rooms are the concept that is a bit opposing opinions. People come with the statement that they are a bit dated, but I enjoyed the colonial motif. Softwood design, white walls, and a perch on the balcony facing the sea (if you are lucky enough to be in a good room). They are not probably the most technologically advanced. But the units are clean and comfortable, and as for the minimalism part, history would suffice!
More than anything else, what truly sets this place apart is the atmosphere. It holds the attraction of olden-time grandeur which sends the idea across that it is a very posh place. But the mood is not cloistered. These high ceilings are like the ones you usually see in wealthier homes. Not to forget, there are also wonderful crystal chandeliers and portraits of wealthy people. It’s somewhat like being in a grand museum (you can actually touch some things).
Food
Enjoy Japani restarurant. The food here is rock-hard and comes from mango to mirto with lichim frit. (The main components introducing you to Japanese cuisine mushrooms). Now, only’ hoppers’fluffy ones for the Sri Lankan’s spicy curry variant of your interest-which you call the two will be the same. Or perhaps the omelet with the hoppers of your preference cooked the way you like them is what you shouldn’t miss!
However, it’s not all about the past for the Galle Face Hotel. They would not only have a pool with a sea view that keeps the ocean at the peak, but if you are one for being at ease, they lustily pamper you at their spa and have several eateries that offer all types of food from traditional Sri Lankan to Italian. I ordered the Seafood Chowder at the Verandah Restaurant – fantastic! Is this the reason you believe that only the elite have a chance to enjoy good food? Still, you should bring enough cash with you for this journey if you want to drench in luxury.
Things to Consider
It always has its downsides; the Galle Face Hotel is not a place for everyone. If you want an ultramodern, fully-furnished hotel, this is not exactly the place for you. Nevertheless, if you find pleasure in a combination of history and luxury with exceptional service and food to die for then this is the oldest, most historical, most expensive place decided on. Certainly it is an experience on which you have to count on for a lot of money, but on the other hand, the experience would be very different from the usual!
