Game of Thrones Movie Review

Game of Thrones Movie Review

Plot Summary

In the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, a season lasts for years. This makes it harder for day-to-day survival. Contemporarily, winter is coming as the people of Westeros prepare themselves for it. At the beginning of the first season of Game of Thrones, we are introduced to Lord Eddard Stark, who is the leader of House of Stark and the Lord of Winterfell. He has several kids, and he loves them dearly. He is then visited by Robert Baratheon, who is the ruler of the Seven kingdoms. Furthermore, he is an old friend who Eddard fought side by side a long time ago.

During the visit, inevitable miscommunications cause confusion and disagreement amongst them, involving Cersei Lannister, his wife. But as old friends, they sort it out. Robert Baratheon then reveals the purpose of the visit by asking Eddard Stark to become his right-hand man, who is known as the Hand of the King. Not having an option, Ned Stark (Eddard) accepts the offer, despite his wife’s word.

Meanwhile, The House Of Targaryen is looking to make a comeback, who were banished the Robert Baratheon when he took over the throne. We are introduced to Viserys Targaryen and Daenerys Targaryen, his sister, who plays a vital role later in the show. Viserys is hoping to get his sister married to Khal Drogo, so he can use his army to take over the throne. But fails miserably as he is banished and killed later in Game of Thrones season 1. We are then shown the Night’s Watch. Who guards the 300-mile Ice wall.

It has stood for more than a thousand years while protecting human beings from what’s beyond. Jon Snow decides to join the Night Watch, as he reckons that’s where his destiny lies. At the end of the Game of Thrones Season 1, Robert Baratheon falls ill, and the Lannister’s seize the opportunity to take the throne for themselves by putting Ned Stark in a bad light. As a result, he is killed in the end. Rob Stark, who is now the King of the North, decides to avenge his father’s death by waging war on the Lannister’s and is hoping to rule the Seven Kingdoms.

As Rob Stark plans a strategy to win the war, he realizes that he needs allies. So he sends Theon Grey joy to win the alliance of the iron borne. However, Renly and Stannis Baratheon also have claims for the throne as they are brothers of Robert Baratheon. Both fights for it and are not willing to let it go away. Meanwhile, Daenerys Targaryen has contrived to hatch the three dragon eggs given by Khal Drogo, who dies due to a woman’s ploy, who was exploited by his kin.

She now goes to find allies to reclaim her throne, along with her followers, which were once ruled by her family. Meanwhile, the Night Watch investigates the mysterious disappearance of their men. Following this, the plot of Game of Thrones goes on about who manages to win the fight against Evil and who finally gets to sit on the throne.

The Inspiration of The Lord of the Rings

Characters in Game of thrones

The Novelist of the Game of Thrones, George RR Martin, is a massive fan of the Tolkien Universe, Middle Earth. We see many of its references and things that remind us of the Lord of the Rings. The Author himself has mentioned this in his interviews. This comes out as a positive outcome for Game of Thrones, as Lord of the Rings itself is the epitome of glory and fantabulous filmmaking. So, Martin has taken their strengths to enhance his novel. Which eventually helped him gain popularity in the long run. When the viewers see its influence on screen, it turns out to be remarkable.

The Twists and Deaths

Game of Thrones has an ample amount of Twists and sudden deaths in it. They are highly unpredictable as the creators make it so exciting and make us feel as if one particular character was to be killed off; we would not be able to imagine how the show would continue without them. But they kill them nonetheless and prove us wrong.

The Battles

Numerous battles take place in Game of Thrones, and it’s a visual treat indeed. Because they are shot in such a realistic manner, and the VFX is unimaginable due to this being a TV Show. They are bloody and gory and convey the message without confusion. The quality of the content made this a blockbuster show.

The Finale

The Blockbuster show Game of Thrones had one of the most controversial TV show finales in history. Not because it was good, but because they became pointless. This was a result due to directors coming up with their own plot, not having the patience to wait until the Author of the book finishes it. It was such a pity to see such a great show having to go through this. It was presented as if it was shot in a hurry. A lot of things happen all of a sudden, and the audience does not have time to process it. Before they know it, the next thing comes up. We quickly feel like they could’ve increased the number of episodes in the final season of Game of Thrones as some characters’ stories were not appropriately ended.

Other Pros and Cons

Pros: The effort put into the practical effects of this Blockbuster show must be appreciated. As they play a significant role in making this a blockbuster show. Moreover, the Visual effects in Game of Thrones are very surreal and close to reality. It is almost impossible to find flaws in it.

Cons: The only issue was the bad ending of the Game of Throne. It feels as if the last season ruined the legacy and reputation of the earlier seasons.

Overall Verdict (4.5/5 Stars)

Games of Thrones is an adventurous show with plenty of action and emotions to process through and is highly recommended.
