Stag Hill campus is the main and oldest campus of the University of Surrey, a leading public research university in the United Kingdom. 4.1.2 History & Functions of Stag Hill Campus

The humble beginnings of the University of Surrey trace back to the Battersea Polytechnic Institute in London. Later, Battersea Polytechnic evolved into Battersea College of Technology during the early 20th century. The University of Surrey received the Royal Charter in 1966. Then the university was relocated from Battersea, London, to Guildford. Stag Hill was chosen for its elevated location and natural surroundings. Now the university owns a purpose-built campus designed for modern education and research.

This area experiences moderate rainfall throughout the year and occasional snowfall in the winter. Moreover, the students can expect pleasant spring and autumn seasons.

4.1.6 Transportation & Airports Closest to the University & Sub Campus

The Guildford Train Station is approximately a 10–15 min walk or a short bus/taxi ride from Stag Hill Campus. From this station, students can get Frequent services to London Waterloo. Some trains connect to major UK cities via the rail network.

Also, the Stag Hill campus of the University of Surrey is easily accessible via local Bus Services. Students can take buses to the university from the Surrey County Hall Bus Terminal. Arriva, Falcon, and Stagecoach routes linking the campus to the town centre, hospitals, and suburbs.

Students can take local taxis near the train station. Moreover, Uber and Bolt operate in Guildford.

Gatwick Airport (LGW) is one of the closest airports to the Stag Hill campus. It is located 35–45 minutes by train from Guildford. Heathrow Airport (LHR) is 40–60 minutes by train + connecting transport. Also, it is a major global hub, and it’s the busiest airport in London.

Also, London City Airport is accessible by rail and tube + train via London stations. Southampton Airport is accessible 1 hour by road/train. They fly regional and short-haul flights.

Guildford G Live is a Live music theatre & events venue. This hosts concerts, performances, comedy, and theatre. This theatre is a place which brings local & international acts into town

The students of Stag Hill Campus of the University of Surrey can stay at the University Hostels on-Campus. College Way Residences offers mixed catered/self-catered rooms. Also, there are communal kitchens & lounges, and these are very close to campus buildings.

Ardverikie Park & Courtyard Halls offer larger buildings with social spaces. This place is ideal for students as they provide quiet study zones. Garnett & Turing is another option, which is ideal for first-year students
