We’ve all heard about the banana powder craze taking over social media, claiming to brighten, blur and bake your makeup into flawless oblivion. One of the key players in this game is Maybelline Lasting Fix Banana Powder, which calls itself your go-to secret weapon for a smooth, shine-free finish. But is it just another internet fad, or would you actual put this talc to the test and add it your makeup bag? I decided to put it all over my face and see for myself, so – here’s what you need to know about how I applied the magic banana powder onto my privileged pale skin.
First Impressions
Lasting Fix Banana Powder – this little cutie of a tub comes with sifter top. Light, compact and perfectly sized to be thrown into any makeup bag for on-the-go use. But the sifter can get a bit dusty — don’t open for first time, boom: it’s raining powder.
Though the color appears a bit daunting as it is that of peel-a-banana yellow. But, believe me it is not universal banana-colored face!
Pros: Silky Powder – Baking, Setting
The powder itself is very finely milled and smooth to the touch. It is super easy to blend and does not cake up. That should be marked as a really huge positive! This is not going to be your full coverage powder foundation but it will be great for setting makeup and mattifying the skin.
And let’s talk about baking! This powder = heaven when it comes to baking your under eyes, and highlighting areas on the face. The yellow of the banana helps to cancel out any darkness or blue tones, this leaving you with an awake and refreshed face.
Cons: Brightness not Too Noticeable, Not Best for Oily Skin
Brightening claims – Now Even for that, its brightening effect is subtle and far from overpowering. The formula doesn’t quite have the pigment to completely get rid of dark circles or hyperpigmentation by itself, so just fair warning.
The one downside for my oily but mature skin is this powder doesn’t have the best oil-control. It only manages to reduce shine. And may not be the most ideal option for those with extremely oily skin. If it is the former, you may want to use a translucent powder instead.
End result: Good setting powder that adds a slight brightening effect.
If your skin typically leans on the drier to normal side, you might enjoy this one best. It bakes well large area of skin too. But may have a bit more pearly/brightening effect. But leave the miracle dark circles brightening effect and final solution of perfect shine control for oily skin untouched.
Would I Recommend This?
It depends! If you are in need of a delicate, light setting powder that excels when baked and provides a gentle brightening effect then this might be the right product for you. But bear in my that oil-control and brightening power are rather moderate. It is especially a good addition to your makeup bag if you are someone who loves baking.
